However, my minds got blow off when I heard about this region from the beautiful waterfront, Kerala! Yes, because you would think that the world's most nutritious, meat-eating creature lives on a vegan diet? Also, guard the temple!
To think, it's hard for a meat-eater to get a veggie meal, let alone a strong animal that is passionate about accepting vegan food. But, Babiya, a guard crocodile who lives in a pool of holy places in Kerala, is this kind of proverb that grows in green water!
First of all, Babiya is the guardian of the Ananthapura Lake Temple which stands at a namesake site in Kasaragod district in Kerala. According to local legend, Babiya only eats at the temple temple which is offered daily after daytime idol worship. The vegetarian prasad contains cooked rice and jaggery, and they eat food that is paid for by the believers fearlessly, by their own hands.
The beautiful story associated with Lord Krishna and one of their most determined devotees illuminates the purpose of Babiya's presence. Coincidentally, when Sri Vilvamangalathu Swami performed deep meditation to gain the popularity of his teaching God, Sri Vishnu, Lord Krishna emerged at an early age and began playing pranks to test the person who was dedicated to him.
Infatuated with the evil of the moment, Vilvamangalathu Swami threw him aside. By the time the sage realized his mistake, the boy-Krishna had disappeared into the cave. The crevice where Krishna disappears is located somewhere inside the temple. Also, crocodile Babiya is the guard appointed to protect the mysterious door.
One legend says that about 70 years ago, a British soldier killed a crocodile guarding the Ananthapura Lake Temple. Surprisingly, the soldier was killed by a snake some time later, which, the villagers believe, was caused by the wrath of the serpent god Anantha for his horrible crimes.
Shortly thereafter, another crocodile emerged from the lake to replace his former guard, and each time a person died, another one emerged from its place!
This is a temple legend in Lake Ananthapura and its leading pilgrim ministers. Be sure of the luck that comes when you get the chance to swim in Babiya on the water of the lake. So, next time you are planning a trip to Kerala, don't forget to visit this temple.
